From Hands-On Experience to High-Tech Innovation

Lee Wagner, a North Georgia native and Georgia Tech engineer, founded RLW Custom Homes in 1993. He began his journey in the construction industry from the ground up—literally—gaining hands-on experience in framing, carpentry, and fieldwork. Over time, RLW Homes grew into a trusted leader in the North Georgia custom home market, known for craftsmanship, integrity, and attention to detail.

Across the globe in the Czech Republic, Jiri Chlepko was immersed in the world of computers and technology. Driven by a desire for a brighter future, he moved to the U.S. in 2000 and began working on a framing crew. There, he developed a deep understanding of custom home construction from the jobsite up.

A Turning Point

The Moment That Changed Everything

Lee and Jiri worked together for years, following the traditional construction process—2D plans, hand sketches, and field improvisation. Then came a pivotal project: a major elevation feature was built incorrectly due to the limitations of 2D CAD drawings.

That moment sparked a conversation that would change the trajectory of their careers. Jiri approached Lee and said, "I couldn’t see the issue in 2D—but I can solve it in 3D." And he did—perfectly, the first time.

From that breakthrough came RLW Virtual Solutions in 2007—a company dedicated to helping designers and builders overcome the same challenges RLW Homes had faced. For years, they partnered with renowned firms across the country and around the world, using 3D modeling to bridge the gap between vision and execution.

A New Standard in Design

RLW Designs is Born

While 3D modeling added immense value, they quickly realized that trying to convert traditional 2D designs into 3D was still inefficient. Critical details were being lost in translation. Time and money were being wasted. The full potential of 3D technology wasn’t being used.

So in 2013, Lee and Jiri launched RLW Designs—a fully 3D-native architectural design firm, built from the ground up to operate in three dimensions from day one.

Every project starts with an advanced 3D site model, ensuring optimal home placement based on real topography. From there, clients walk through their custom home virtually—exploring layout, materials, lighting, finishes, and even interior design—before construction ever begins. The result is clarity, accuracy, and confidence at every stage.
